While the economic stabilization package passed by Congress at the end of March provided much-needed relief for some industries, it completely ignored the motorcoach industry – an industry that moves approximately 600 million passengers a year.
There are 3,000 bus and motorcoach companies in the United States, 90% of which are small, family-owned businesses. Many of these businesses have had to shut down during the COVID-19 crisis, leaving 100,000 employees out of work and thousands of buses across the country sitting idle, according to data from the American Bus Association (ABA).
This industry plays a critical role in emergency evacuation and management planning. And with an ‘above average’ hurricane season beginning June 1, many are concerned that without financial relief to the bus industry, the equipment and manpower to aid in evacuations will be unavailable.
Recently, TMS CEO Frank Sherman shared his concerns in a video along with DC Trails Founder William Torres and American Bus Association (ABA) President and CEO Peter Pantuso.
Take action and support the motorcoach industry.
